Tech Week. Also known as Hell Week. The final stretch before Opening Night, when tensions are high, people are stressed, and there’s a lot of work to get done.
Thankfully, you don’t have to dread it. Here are 5 tips to help you survive your next Tech Week as smoothly as possible.
1. Eat healthy and drink LOTS of water.
You should know this by now, but it’s more important than ever. You’ll be tempted to grab some chips from the vending machine, but try to eat more veggies and fruits. You’ll get the nutrients you need to stay energized… even after running that one number 100 times.
2. Stick to your routines.
You will be exhausted when you get home each night, but do your best to stick to your usual nightly routine. Eat dinner, take a shower, wash your face. You’re putting your body through a lot of stress, so take extra care of it no matter how tired you are.
3. Keep track of your work.
Somehow, every deadline seems to fall on Tech Week. Keep a schedule to help you stay on top of your other projects and set aside time to study for that final exam or work on that essay. Organizing your time during this intense week will help minimize your stress.
4. Take a breather.
Everyone is working hard to put on the best show for Opening Night, so they may be irritable every now and then. Don’t take anything that happens personally, but if you start to feel overwhelmed, take a few breaths and try to clear your head before continuing.
5. Above all else, have fun!
Stay positive as best you can, even when it feels hard to do. You and your team are doing something incredible, and although everyone is on edge, it’s all going to melt away when you’re finally in front of the audience.
As much as you dread Tech Week, you secretly know it’s all worth it. It’s your final week with your theatre family before curtains rise, so embrace the ups and downs and break a leg. You’ve got this!
